An Introduction to Coliving
Coliving is a fast-growing trend that is becoming extremely popular with remote workers and digital nomads who wish to travel the world as they work.
Rather than being a hotel, Airbnb, apartment or other types of traditional travel accommodation, coliving spaces provide a place to stay that has:
- high-speed and reliable Internet access
- an organized or structured social scene
- private rooms for each person
- a shared living area and kitchen that is usually quite classy (think more boutique hotel-style rather than student digs)
- no contract but normally requires at least one week’s stay.
The concept is really aimed at digital nomads, i.e. for those with a decent level of income and who want some level of comfort and with a great social scene added into it, whilst they travel and work online.
With coliving explained about (you can also read what is coliving here), let’s look at 12 coliving spaces that we love and recommend to you.
1. Sun&Co, Javea, Spain
One of the first coliving (and coworking) spaces we ever visited as remote workers was to Sun&Co in the lovely small town of Javea, on the Spanish coast.
The staff are extremely friendly and they organize lots of events and are incredibly helpful.
To use the co-working space you have to also be staying in their coliving space and, to be honest, it works very well this way.
You get a great chance to socialise in the evenings with the other digital and remote workers.
The town of Javea itself is a picturesque small town with a lovely beach and it’s a nice location for coliving.
Reasons to Stay
- Close to the beach
- Organizes events

- Is culturally very good (great foods, plenty of things to see and do)
- Has a good climate (although you may or many not wish to avoid the rainy season)

If you are looking for an exotic location where you can work online whilst simultaneously having a stunning sea view, Koh Phangan is a great option.
This is a great island off the coast of Thailand and is popular with remote workers.
Reasons to Stay
- One of the cheapest countries to work as a digital nomad, so you can easily afford a sea-view room
- Reliable and fast Internet connections
- Close to several bars and restaurants
- The co-working space is quiet enough such that we found we could get enough work done during the daytime

7. Arctic Coliving Lodge, Norway
Very popular with digital nomads, and not because of tropical beaches and hot summer weather, is a rather different coliving option, that of the Arctic Coliving Lodge in the north of Norway.
Reasons to Stay

8. AngkorHUB Coliving Space, Cambodia
There are some great coliving spaces across Asia including in countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, and Japan.
One of my favourites though is AngkorHUB in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Named after the famous temple, this coliving space is a great base to work from for a few weeks or longer and is close to everything you need.
Reasons to Stay
- They provide a full package for remote workers and digital nomads who are visiting Siem Reap in that airport transfers, meals, coliving space and co-working area are all included if you need them all.
- We enjoyed the features such as the hammocks and the coconut tree and the special ‘Skype Hut’ so you can make calls in privacy
- Great sense of community and met so many great digital nomads there from all over the world
Further Information
- They have a website here.
9. KoHub, Koh Lanta, Thailand Coliving
Thailand is a great country for coliving and coworking, hence the inclusion of another of our favourites from this country.
KoHub is located on the islands of Koh Lanta in the south of the country near the top of Malaysia.
If you are interested in experiencing island life whilst traveling as a digital nomad, we recommend trying KoHub.
Reasons to Stay
- We loved the fact that they do a package whereby you can buy coliving (choose a one, two or four-bed apartment) with coworking and 2 meals a day.
- Great location by the beach and accommodation a short 5 – 10 minute walk away.
- Loved the extra facilities such as the organic garden, yoga area, and massage services available.

12. San Diego, USA with Outside Coliving
We also absolutely love the city of San Diego, California, as a coliving and co-working experience.
You cannot, of course, compare the cost of living in San Diego with being a digital nomad in places such as Cambodia, Costa Rica, and Thailand.
But if you want to enjoy spending some time in the U.S. coliving and working, then San Diego is a fantastic city.
Reasons to Stay
