The digital nomad community for remote workers is always alive and kicking here in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. Spain is a great location for working from and the new Spain nomad visa certainly makes the country even more attractive.

Beach meetup for digital nomads at Las Canteras beach, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The Canary Islands are particularly good because of the year-round good weather including in the winter months when it rarely drops below 20 Celsius!

In addition to the great weather and island life, there are some popular weekly meetups for remote workers staying or living here in Las Palmas, including the weekly Sunday afternoon beach meetup

Weekly Beach Meetup

For several years, Sunday afternoons have traditionally been the day when digital nomads staying here meet up on Las Canteras beach.

Whether you want to just meet others and chat, play volleyball or network with other digital nomads, this is an event that anyone can attend and the event normally starts at 4 pm each Sunday.

  • Exact Location: By the volleyball nets opposite Hotel Christina Las Palmas (this hotel is the perfect dropping-off point if arriving by taxi)

You will see roughly 10 volleyball courts opposite Hotel Christina and, depending on what volleyball courts on the beach are available, one or two of the courts will be by where everyone meets up from the nomad community.

If you are unsure, you can check the Whatsapp group to see exactly where the location is on a given Sunday as the location is normally posted on the WhatsApp group on the day.

Or look out for the legendary DJ Vinny (who mixes the music on the beach when he’s in Las Palmas).

Connecting on WhatsApp

There is a group on WhatsApp dedicated to the Sunday volleyball meetups, although the connected WhatsApp telephone number can change according to who is running/taking over and managing the WhatsApp group at a given time.

  • You can always find out how to connect by also networking and connecting with everyone in Soppa de Azul coworking right on the edge of Las Canteras Beach.
  • You might also be interested in the La Cicer Beach Whatsapp Community This group meets at various times throughout the week, at the end of Las Canteras, on La Cicer Beach (that adjoins Las Canteras).

After the meetup on the beach, you might choose, as we have done a few times, to go for a drink and meal on the boardwalk.

There are dozens of bars and restaurants along the seafront if you want to continue socializing later in the evening.

Spain Travel Resources

I have been traveling for many years and have come to use a lot of travel sites and resources for booking my trips. They represent the companies that I often use and have served me well and they are the first ones I use when booking new trips.

  • Booking.com – they tend to provide very competitive prices and the reviews are easy to view, and they normally have something available wherever in the world I am going to. They also now provide airport transfers, local attractions, and flights.
  • Safety Wing Travel Insurance – Safety Wing has become one of the leaders in travel insurance, especially for remote workers and digital nomads as they provide cover that includes for long-term stays.
  • Get Your Guide – is the site on which I normally book tours (I love to visit the local sports stadia, aquarium, royal palace, and some cultural attractions). With get Your Guide they have excellent customer support and have a wide range of tours.
